That’s how we handle every odor job at FC Auto Detailing. We find where the smell is coming from, remove it, extract and deep clean, treat what’s left with an enzyme cleaner, replace the cabin air filter, and finish with a chlorine dioxide (ClO2) treatment when the job calls for it.

How we do it
Every smell is different, so we don’t run the same routine on every car. Here’s how a typical odor job goes.
We check under the seats, the carpet and pad, the trunk, headliner, vents and cabin filter to find what’s causing it.
Trash, food and anything soaked through comes out first. On bad spills we pull seats or carpet to reach the padding.
Hot water extraction on carpets, mats and cloth seats, steam on vents and tight spots, and every hard surface cleaned.
Pet urine, vomit, milk and food get an enzyme treatment that breaks down what’s left in the fibers.
Your old filter has been soaking up the smell the whole time. We swap it so the vents blow clean air.
Heavy smells get a chlorine dioxide (ClO2) treatment with the car closed up and nobody inside. It breaks odors down instead of covering them.

Smoke is one of the toughest smells because it gets into the headliner, seat foam and vents, so it takes a full clean of every surface, a new cabin air filter and a ClO2 treatment. Cars that were smoked in heavily for years are the hardest, and we’ll tell you what to expect when we see it.
No. Fragrance covers a smell for a few days and then it’s back. We remove the source, clean and extract, and use enzyme treatment and ClO2 where it’s needed.
ClO2 is chlorine dioxide. It breaks down odor molecules instead of covering them up, and we switched to it from ozone because it gets better results. The car stays closed up with nobody inside during the treatment, and we air it out before we hand it back.
It depends on what caused the smell and how far it spread. Big spills where carpet has to come out and dry can run into a second day. That’s why most odor jobs are drop-off. We’ll give you a time estimate when we quote it.
